Mark Morgenstern

Director & Cinematographer / Réalisateur et directeur photo

Montréal, Québec, Canada

When working freelance for others, I'm usually hired as a director of photography. Shorts, independent features and docs. My additional experience as an editor informs my facility with shooting for proper coverage and smooth cutting, and my experience with postproduction and modern workflow means I'm knowledgeable with the critical aspects of digital cinema codec choices, greenscreen and motion data capture. I've also worked in VFX, on both sides of the camera, so I'm intimately acquainted with those special requirements as well. My experience includes cinematography and camerawork on many independent films, plus some direction and co-direction, which, along with the aforementioned VFX experience, could apply well to second unit work. My experience as an editor is closely tied with my understanding of cinematic space and movement: I've specialised in dance and large-format 3D projects in particular.
